J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah marries journalist Nidhi Razdan
The marriage was solemnised in New Delhi on Friday under the Special Marriage Act, according to reports.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah married journalist Nidhi Razdan in New Delhi on Friday, according to reports from The Pioneer and Telangana Today. Abdullah announced the news on X on Saturday, stating, “A new journey began yesterday,” and sharing photographs of the couple in wedding attire.
The marriage was solemnised under the Special Marriage Act in New Delhi. Witnesses at the ceremony included family members from both sides. Wedding functions were held in both Srinagar and New Delhi, attended by relatives including Abdullah's parents, Farooq Abdullah and Mollie, and Razdan's parents, MK Razdan and Sarla Razdan.
This follows the dissolution of Abdullah's first marriage to Payal. The Supreme Court dissolved the marriage between Abdullah and Payal by mutual consent on July 31, 2026, after a mediated settlement. A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices P.S.
Narasimha and Alok Aradhe heard and disposed of the matter.
The couple had married on September 1, 1994, and had been living separately since 2009. They have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. Abdullah's previous legal attempts to obtain a divorce on grounds of cruelty and desertion were dismissed by a family court in 2016 and upheld by the Delhi High Court in December 2023.
Nidhi Razdan, 49, is a journalist and the daughter of senior journalist Maharaj Krishan Razdan. She previously served as the executive editor of NDTV.
