Jaishankar calls for diplomatic solutions and supply chain resilience at G20
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised peaceful dialogue and energy market stability during the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar advocated for negotiated settlements and peaceful dialogue at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, according to The Tribune. Speaking on the proceedings, Jaishankar stated that there are no military solutions to the two major ongoing global conflicts and that a diplomatic pathway must be found.
During discussions on energy and food security, Jaishankar warned that the politicisation of energy flows and artificial disruptions in fuel distribution are causing hardships. He noted that the Global South is bearing the brunt of energy shortages due to these market distortions.
The Minister also highlighted vulnerabilities in agricultural stability, citing grain shipment disruptions in the Black Sea and fertiliser shortages linked to tensions in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea corridors. He argued that the global economy needs more diversified manufacturing and production to mitigate systemic shocks.
Jaishankar called on the G20 to resist predatory practices and promote the right to industrialise. He suggested that de-concentrating the global economy could discourage the weaponisation of finance, resources, and market share.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss the Ukraine conflict and the Gulf situation. He also participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting alongside US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
