Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad observes Shaheed Divas and inducts new committee

The council appointed a 199-member executive committee and honoured Dilip Chakraborty in Guwahati.

The Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad observed Shaheed Divas at its permanent office in Guwahati on Sunday, according to ANI and The News Mill. The event included paying respects to Dilip Chakraborty, a Secretariat employee who died on November 1, 1980, during the Assam Movement following police atrocities.

The proceedings at Karmachari Bhavan involved hoisting the council flag, lighting earthen lamps, and offering flowers at the martyr's portrait. During the ceremony, the current body was dissolved and a new 199-member executive committee was sworn in.

Kumud Kumar Kotoky took charge as the new President, while Pranab Bhuyan was appointed General Secretary. President Kotoky said Chakraborty's sacrifice would inspire the new team to work on resolving employee issues.

General Secretary Bhuyan stated that the council's immediate priority is to raise opposition against the National Pension System (NPS).

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former senior bureaucrat Engineer Pradyut Kumar Choudhury. Other attendees included Nagen Kalita, Basanta Kalita, and Charan Deka.

Speaking for the council, senior Excise Officer Sailendra Pandey said the state's employee community expects the new committee to stay committed to the welfare and progress of Assam.
