Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday that an Indian Navy seismic life detection unit has been flown to the G Udayagiri landslide site in Kandhamal district. According to The New Indian Express, the unit uses specialised sensors and scanning technology to find biological signals under mud and debris.
The Chief Minister met with officials at the special relief commissioner office in Bhubaneswar to review damage from landslides and cyclone Arnab in Ganjam and Gajapati districts. He stated that coordinated efforts are working to find missing persons and restore essential services.
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, Fire Services, and Special Operations Group are conducting operations. The Indian Navy is also being involved to support these search efforts.
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari discussed using a Railways chain pulley system for evacuations with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The East Coast Railway has started steps to send this equipment to the site.
Majhi directed officials to restore electricity and road connectivity on a war footing. He also told departments to remain alert for another possible cyclone in the Bay of Bengal by preparing shelters and stocking food and medicines.
