Shreyas Iyer flags fielding concerns after India wins T20I series
India captain Shreyas Iyer noted that bowling and fielding require improvement despite securing a 3-2 series victory against New Zealand.
India captain Shreyas Iyer said the team needs to improve its bowling and fielding after winning the five-match T20I series against New Zealand 3-2. According to Telangana Today, the series win in New Zealand was Iyer's first in a SENA country during his captaincy.
Speaking during the post-match presentation in Hamilton, Iyer said the team was a bit sloppy and could have been better. He described the series as a great learning experience while playing on different grounds and in unfamiliar conditions.
Iyer noted that the first three games set the rhythm for the team. He added that the team wanted to experiment and challenge themselves during the final two games, though they did not live up to it.
The captain mentioned that fielding is an aspect that needs improvement, noting the difficulty of playing under dark lights and clear skies. He said the team would brainstorm to work on these areas.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner said the series was very tight and that his team failed to capitalise on key moments in the first three games. Santner stated the scoreline could have been different if they had won those matches.
