Mallikarjun Kharge jokes about speech length at Ramlila Maidan rally

The Congress president told supporters he would speak for an hour if they did not remain quiet during his address on Sunday.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed supporters at the INDIA bloc's 'Chalo Delhi' protest march at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday. The rally was held to raise concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

During his speech, Kharge joked with the crowd as they made noise. He told the supporters that he was finishing his speech in five minutes, but would speak for one hour if they did not stay quiet.

Kharge accused the BJP of 'vote theft' in its central government and the governments of Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. He stated that the public does not elect these governments and called for the removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save democracy.

The Congress leader said the opposition would work together to protect the Constitution and strengthen democracy. Other INDIA bloc leaders present included Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Separately, BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan participated in a 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' padayatra in Faridabad on Sunday. Pradhan claimed that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have lost confidence in democratic institutions.
