Uttar Pradesh to launch state Quantum Mission to boost technology

The state is developing an ecosystem for artificial intelligence, robotics and quantum computing to attract investment and support startups.

Uttar Pradesh is preparing to launch a state-level Quantum Mission to advance its artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced technology ecosystem, Alok Kumar, principal secretary of IT and Electronics, said at the ETGovernment AI Vision Conclave in Lucknow on Friday.

The mission aims to build capabilities in quantum computing and communication. This initiative is part of a strategy to expand technology adoption, attract investment and create opportunities for businesses and startups.

During the conclave, Awanish Kumar Awasthi, advisor to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, told investors and entrepreneurs to explore state opportunities. He stated that zero tolerance for crime is the foundation for economic growth and investor confidence.

Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak called for the responsible use of AI, particularly in healthcare. He advised startups to focus on innovations for social challenges and cautioned against excessive dependence on technology.

Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun said the state is working on an AI policy framework and is open to suggestions from academic institutions and tech companies. He noted the government aims to reduce the time taken to resolve innovator problems from months to days.

National Stock Exchange managing director and chief executive officer Ashishkumar Chauhan said the NSE is working with the state to bring more Uttar Pradesh businesses to the stock market. He noted the state's investor base has grown to 1.6 crore, representing nearly 12 per cent of the national base.
