YSRCP demands repolling after alleging municipal election irregularities in Andhra Pradesh

Party leaders staged a protest in Vijayawada, claiming booth occupation and attacks disrupted the democratic process.

YSRCP leaders held a protest outside the State Election Commission office in Vijayawada on Sunday, calling November 1 a “dark day for democracy”. The party is demanding repolling in areas where municipal voting was allegedly disrupted by rigging and booth occupation.

MLCs Lella Appireddy, Kalpalatha Reddy, Murugudu Hanumantha Rao, and Ruhulla submitted a formal complaint to the State Election Commissioner. They alleged that TDP coalition workers occupied polling stations, removed YSRCP agents, and attacked women, workers, and candidates.

The leaders claimed that incidents occurred in Pulivendula, Kadapa, Madanapalle, Chittoor, Chimakurthy, Macherla, and Chilakaluripet. They also questioned why CCTV and webcasting were only available at 6,000-7,000 of the 12,724 polling stations.

In Pulivendula, YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met the Returning Officer to report irregularities. Jagan alleged that TDP workers occupied booths from 4 am and that approximately 70 YSRCP agents were prevented from entering polling stations.

The party also highlighted a discrepancy in Pulivendula, where they claimed 681 votes were recorded under the ‘Others’ category despite the voter list having only 14 voters in that group. YSRCP is seeking accountability from the police and election machinery.
