West Bengal seeks help from Kerala to trace migrant workers
West Bengal has requested Kerala to share worker details to update its database and extend social security benefits to migrants.
West Bengal has approached the Kerala government to help trace its migrant workers and update its database, according to The Times of India.
In a letter sent on September 28, West Bengal Labour Secretary Rachna Bhagat requested information such as the identities, permanent residences, and contact information of workers from her state working in Kerala.
The West Bengal government noted that many workers have not registered for social security schemes, which leaves families without benefits during medical emergencies, accidents, or deaths.
West Bengal has registered 33,75,990 migrant workers so far, but officials believe many more are not included in the database.
The Kerala government's Economic Review 2025 shows that 1,46,136 workers from West Bengal were registered on the Athidhi portal as of November 20, 2025.
These workers made up nearly 34 per cent of the 4,31,975 migrants registered on the portal, though these figures do not represent the total number of West Bengal workers in Kerala.
