London boy raises over £13,000 for wildlife conservation

Twelve-year-old Leo Sordello-Savala has received recognition from Sir David Attenborough for his animal conservation efforts.

Leo Sordello-Savala, a 12-year-old from Camberwell, south London, has raised more than £13,000 for animal charities and rewilding projects, according to the Times of India.

The young conservationist has built an online presence through Leo’s Animal Planet, which includes YouTube, podcasts, and social media. The London Post reports that he has more than 35,000 followers across several platforms.

He has donated profits from his online content, a sustainable clothing shop on Teemill, and prize money from the 2025 London Eco Champion Award. His fundraising also includes selling old toys, books, and clothes, as well as holding school events.

Sordello-Savala has worked with the Cheetah Conservation Fund, the Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK, and Born Free, where he serves as a young ambassador.

On October 29, he was presented with the BCyA Medal of Honor at the Palace of Westminster. Southwark News stated that his efforts earned him a British Citizen Youth Award for his contributions to society.

In 2021, Sir David Attenborough sent a handwritten letter acknowledging his work to protect wildlife.
