Five-year-old boy dies after celebratory firing in Sultanpur

A child was hit by a bullet during firing before a wedding procession departed in Uttar Pradesh's Kadipur area.

A five-year-old boy died on Sunday evening after being struck by a bullet during celebratory firing in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, according to reports from The New Indian Express and Hindustan Times.

The incident occurred in Futehari Banke village under the Kadipur police station limits before a wedding procession was set to leave. The deceased, identified as Arsh Patel, was the son of Girivar Gopal Patel.

Police said the accused, identified as Ajay, allegedly opened fire before the baraat departed from a marriage lawn. The Hindustan Times reported that Ajay is the brother-in-law of the groom, Anurag Patel.

The boy's mother, Amrita Patel, and other family members took him to the Kadipur community health centre. Due to his critical condition, he was moved to the Government Medical College in Sultanpur, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Circle Officer Vinay Gautam stated that an investigation is underway and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Police teams are currently searching for the accused, who reportedly fled the scene and switched off his mobile phone.
