Naidu orders 48-hour deadline for cyclone Murasu restoration works

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to remain alert as cyclone Murasu approaches the coast tonight.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday instructed the administration to stay fully alert for cyclone Murasu, which is expected to cross the state coast tonight, according to Telangana Today.

During a review meeting at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre in the Secretariat, Naidu stressed the importance of preventing loss of life and property. He noted that the impact of the cyclone on the coast is likely to be relatively limited, with wind speeds and rainfall intensity expected to be lower than cyclone Arnab, which crossed the coast last week.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that Palnadu is projected to see the most rainfall at 30 cm, while Prakasam and Markapuram are expected to receive 24 cm and 19 cm respectively. Krishna, Guntur, Eluru, and Nellore could see rainfall levels of up to 9 cm each.

To manage power issues, officials stated that 31,000 electricity poles have been sent from Srikakulam to Krishna district. They estimated that winds could affect approximately 8,000 poles in the South Coastal and Rayalaseema districts. Additionally, 1,000 personnel are arriving from Chennai to assist with restoration in districts such as Nellore and Prakasam.

Naidu called for special attention to water management, directing officials to fill tanks and reservoirs in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, and Markapuram. He also instructed the activation of Water Users Associations to monitor 6,800 tanks across the six affected districts and to use Jaladhara programme works to prevent tank breaches.

The Chief Minister ordered that all post-cyclone restoration works be completed within 48 hours. He also requested that officials expedite the processes for input subsidies and crop insurance compensation.
