Railways suspends platform ticket sales at six Delhi stations for festivals

Northern Railway has introduced restrictions on parcel services and platform tickets to manage passenger crowds during Diwali and Chhath Puja 2026.

Indian Railways has implemented temporary limits on platform ticket sales and parcel services at several major stations in Delhi to manage heavy festive crowds. According to The Indian Express, these measures are intended to ensure passenger safety during the Diwali and Chhath Puja period.

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, stated that platform ticket sales will be suspended at six stations from November 3 to November 14, 2026.

At New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Junction, departmental parcel booking will be restricted from November 3 to November 15, 2026. The loading and unloading of all parcel types, including leased SLRs, leased VPs, demand VPs, and advance VPs, will be restricted from November 5 to November 15, 2026 at these locations.

Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station will face restrictions on departmental parcel booking and all parcel loading and unloading from November 5 to November 8, 2026. However, loading and unloading at the station's VP siding will continue during this time.

During the restriction period, passengers may only carry personal luggage in passenger coaches. The CPRO said that the booking of registered newspapers and magazines will be permitted, depending on public safety considerations.
