Himanta Biswa Sarma criticises Congress over EVM and vote theft claims

The Assam Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu should have resigned before protesting against Electronic Voting Machines.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday attacked the Congress party regarding its allegations of vote theft and Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) manipulation. Speaking in Shimla after a BJP padyatra and public rally, Sarma said Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu should have stepped down before participating in protests against EVMs, noting that Sukhu attained his position through the same system.

According to ANI, Sarma questioned why opposition leaders participate in elections if they believe the Election Commission or the electoral process is compromised. He referred to the Congress leadership as "duplicate Gandhis" and suggested that if the system were truly flawed, they should not contest elections in places like Uttar Pradesh.

Sarma also addressed employment, stating that Priyanka Gandhi and Sukhu had promised five lakh jobs in Himachal Pradesh but had not delivered. He contrasted this with Assam, where he claimed the BJP provided 1.07 lakh jobs against a commitment of one lakh. He stated that the BJP wins by winning people's hearts rather than stealing votes.

The Chief Minister accused the Gandhi family of protecting infiltrators and called for the nationwide implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). He also criticised Rahul Gandhi, claiming he is influenced by Bangladesh and challenging him to visit Assam.

Regarding electoral outcomes, Sarma said the BJP focuses on winning the country rather than celebrating single constituency victories. He concluded by saying he would return to Himachal Pradesh once the BJP forms the state government.
