Alexander Zverev becomes new ATP world No.1

The German champion reached the top of the rankings after surpassing Jannik Sinner, according to the Hindustan Times.

German tennis player Alexander Zverev has become the world No.1 in the latest ATP rankings on Monday. The 29-year-old, who won the French Open and US Open this season, moved into the top spot after Jannik Sinner was moved to number 29.

Zverev is the second-oldest first-time world No.1, following John Newcombe in 1974. He reached the top position four years after his first time reaching number two.

The Hindustan Times reported that Zverev has a 65-17 record so far this season. However, he holds a 3-9 record against top 10 opponents. His losses this year include defeats to Alex de Minaur, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner.

Zverev has won two titles this year. In comparison, Carlos Alcaraz finished 2025 as world No.1 with eight titles, while Jannik Sinner had eight titles in 2024.

Regarding his status as the best player, Zverev said that with Sinner injured and Alcaraz returning after four months, he was probably the best. He added that if both were healthy and at the top of their game, he might not be.

The season-ending Finals will begin in a couple of weeks, where Zverev will compete as the year-ending world No.1.
