Karnataka Minister rejects claims of Honda Motor exit from state

Industries Minister M B Patil stated the company is preparing to begin electric two-wheeler production at its Narasapura campus.

Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil on Sunday refuted allegations by Union Minister for Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy that Honda Motor is planning to leave the state. According to reports from BusinessLine and Urban Acres, Patil denied that the company intends to move its operations out of Karnataka.

Patil said there has been no lapse in the dealings of the State Government with Honda and the company has not expressed any dissatisfaction with the state. He noted that Honda has been manufacturing two-wheelers at its Narasapura site in Kolar district since 2013.

The minister stated that the company currently produces 10,000 vehicles every day and employs more than 7,800 people. Since 2011, Honda has been allotted 135 acres of land at the Narasapura location in phases.

The company also maintains a 35-acre facility for distributing and warehousing spare parts at Adinarayana Hosahalli in Doddaballapura taluk. This site serves the southern region and connects the manufacturing presence to a wider distribution network.

Patil added that Honda intends to enter the electric two-wheeler market and plans to start production at the Narasapura campus in the coming days. The minister did not provide a specific timeline or investment amount for the electric vehicle production.
