IndiGo expects capacity growth in third quarter despite high fuel costs
The airline's CEO, William Walsh, anticipates an increase in flight capacity following a period of reductions in the second quarter.
IndiGo expects to see an increase in flight capacity during the third quarter, according to a report by The Hindu. CEO William Walsh stated that the airline anticipates growth despite the expectation that jet fuel prices will stay very high.
The airline saw a small reduction in capacity during the second quarter, primarily on international routes. Walsh noted that while domestic capacity remained flat, international capacity experienced a 2.9 per cent cut.
Regarding regional conflict, IndiGo has reduced its daily flights to Saudi Arabia by 30. However, flight schedules for the rest of the region have returned to normal levels.
Last week, IndiGo reported a net loss of Rs 1,8791 crore for the second quarter of FY 2027. Walsh previously mentioned in an analyst's call that airfares were only able to offset 60 per cent of the increase in fuel costs.
The airline has been absorbing the remaining portion of the fuel cost hike, which was influenced by geopolitical tensions in the Gulf.
