New school building in Rajouri brings hope to Kalakote students

Locals and teachers urge the government to upgrade Government High School Tatta Pani to the Higher Secondary level.

A new school building at Government High School Tatta Pani in the Kalakote Zone of Rajouri district is nearing completion, according to ANI. The construction, initiated under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, is being executed under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD).

The old building suffered extensive damage during a storm and heavy winds in 2025, when its roof was blown away. A school teacher noted that the remaining portions were unsafe, forcing students to conduct classes in the open.

The new building features modern infrastructure and improved facilities to accommodate students. It is expected to provide a safer learning environment for children from economically weaker families in the remote, hilly region.

While the new infrastructure provides relief, students and residents have requested that the school be upgraded from the High School level to the Higher Secondary level. Currently, students finishing Class 10 must travel to Kalakote or Rajouri for further studies.

A teacher stated that adding Classes 11 and 12 would benefit students from Tatta Pani and surrounding villages. The community noted that the distance and costs often cause students to discontinue their studies, particularly girl students.

The school serves several adjoining feeding schools and far-flung villages where no private school facilities are available nearby.
