Karnataka may grant official status to Kannada flag, says CM Shivakumar

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the government is considering making the flag mandatory in government offices and institutions.

The Karnataka government is considering granting official state flag status to the Kannada flag, according to a report by Deccan Herald on Sunday.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar stated that discussions regarding the legal and policy framework for the flag will likely occur during the upcoming winter legislature session in Belagavi.

Shivakumar said the government intends to make the display of the flag compulsory in government offices and institutions that receive state support.

The Chief Minister added that officials are also looking into issuing an order to promote the hoisting of the flag by private establishments.

Speaking after the 71st Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations, Shivakumar noted that a Cabinet decision was previously taken and a proposal was sent to the Centre, though official recognition has not yet been received.

He said the government would prepare the required protocols and guidelines to ensure the state flag can be flown alongside the national flag.
