Minister expresses displeasure over low-key Rajyotsava celebrations in Kolar
District In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy called for grander future celebrations after limited public participation at the event on Sunday.
District In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy expressed displeasure over the low-key 71st Karnataka Rajyotsava celebration held at Gandhivana in Kolar on Sunday. According to the Deccan Herald, the event organised by the district administration and Sri Bhuvaneshwari Kannada Sangha saw limited public participation due to the small venue.
Ramalinga Reddy, who also holds the Forest portfolio, noted that in other districts such as Bengaluru and Ramanagara, the festival has been celebrated on a grand scale at district stadiums. He directed Deputy Commissioner M R Ravikumar to ensure future celebrations at the district stadium follow the scale of Republic Day and Independence Day.
MLA Kottur Manjunath, MP M Mallesh Babu, and MLC M L Anil Kumar also expressed concerns regarding the event. Manjunath suggested that the celebration should be held over three days from next year, involving various government departments and organisations.
The minister inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag and offering floral tributes to the portrait of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari. During the event, 13 achievers from various fields received district-level Karnataka Rajyotsava awards.
The absence of any award recipients from Srinivaspur taluk has raised questions among residents regarding the selection process. While 13 achievers and two government employees were honoured, no one from the taluk was included on the list.
