Jammu and Kashmir inaugurates 1,416 flats for Kashmiri Pandit employees

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha opened residential complexes in Srinagar, Budgam and Kupwara for staff appointed under the Prime Minister’s Package.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has opened 1,416 transit accommodation flats at three sites in the Kashmir Valley, according to Urban Acres. These residential units are for employees appointed under the Prime Minister’s Package.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the largest complex at Zewan in Srinagar and virtually opened sites at Kakan Maran in Budgam and Kulangam Bagh in Kupwara. The Zewan site includes 936 flats across 39 blocks and is fully allotted, while the Kulangam Bagh complex has 288 flats and Kakan Maran has 192 flats.

Sinha said the inauguration is a step towards improving living conditions for these employees and helping Kashmiri Pandit families return to the Valley. He stated that each flat represents the hopes of families seeking a secure future in Kashmir.

The Prime Minister’s Package was introduced in 2008 by the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance government, providing 6,000 government jobs for Kashmiri Pandits living outside the Valley. The wider project involves 6,000 flats across 20 locations, with more than 5,200 completed so far.

Sinha directed authorities to complete pending work and ensure the complexes have uninterrupted electricity, water, security, waste management and grievance redressal. The administration's next priority is to finish remaining construction and make basic services operational across all project locations.
