Police officer killed by truck during liquor smuggling operation in Dewas

Authorities recovered more than 1,800 litres of alcohol after a police station in-charge was crushed by a vehicle on the Harda-Nemawar highway.

A police station in-charge died after being crushed by a truck during an anti-liquor smuggling operation in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district, according to ANI on Monday.

The incident took place on the Harda-Nemawar highway between 1 am and 2 am during the night connecting Sunday and Monday.

Dilip Puri, who was posted at the Khategaon police station, was leading a team to verify intelligence regarding an illegal liquor consignment when the accident happened.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Mishra said that when the truck was signalled to stop, it sped up and its rear wheel reportedly ran over Puri.

Police have seized the Eicher truck and recovered over 1,800 litres of alcohol that was being moved without any purchase bills.

SP Mishra stated that an investigation is underway to identify the source, destination, and those financially involved in the transportation and logistics network.
