Khategaon Station House Officer Dilip Puri died after a vehicle transporting illegal alcohol allegedly struck him on the Indore-Betul highway.
Khategaon Station House Officer (SHO) Dilip Puri was killed early on Monday in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district after a truck allegedly ran over him, according to ThePrint.
The incident occurred on the Indore-Betul highway after Puri went to the location following reports of illicit liquor smuggling.
Excise department sub-inspector Pooja Gehlot said the truck had been parked near a roadside eatery since Sunday night.
When the officer attempted to question the driver, the man allegedly drove over a road divider to escape, causing the truck's rear wheel to run over Puri.
Gehlot stated that the vehicle was travelling from Harda towards Khategaon and contained liquor boxes hidden in a secret compartment.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, and a search is currently underway to locate him.
No valid permit for the transport of liquor was found in the truck, Gehlot added.
