Shailendra Kumar assigned interim J&K Chief Secretary charge
The 1995 batch IAS officer will hold the position until Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav assumes charge.
The Jammu and Kashmir government assigned the charge of UT Chief Secretary to Shailendra Kumar late on Sunday night, according to The Indian Express. Kumar, a 1995 AGMUT cadre IAS officer, will hold the post until the arrival of the new Chief Secretary, Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav.
Kumar currently serves as Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) in the Finance Department and holds additional charge as Administrative Secretary of the Agriculture Production Department. An order from the General Administration Department stated he will continue to look after the chief secretary charge until Dr Yadav joins the Union Territory.
Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav was appointed new Chief Secretary by the Ministry of Home Affairs, effective from November 1 or the date he assumes charge. He succeeds Atal Dulloo, who retired on October 31.
Earlier on Sunday, LG Manoj Sinha ordered the transfer of six IAS officers. This included Shaleen Kabra, a 1992-batch AGMUT-cadre officer, who was posted as DG of the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration & Rural Development.
The Civil Secretariat and other Darbar Move offices reopened in Jammu on Monday. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah toured various offices and interacted with officials following the resumption of government functioning from the winter capital.
The Darbar Move, a practice of shifting the seat of power between Srinagar and Jammu, was restored by the Omar Abdullah government in October 2025.
