Mother tongue essential for science popularisation, says KSTA chief

Karnataka Science and Technology Academy Chairman Rajasab A.H. emphasised that communicating scientific knowledge in local languages can help reach all sections of society.

Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA) Chairman Rajasab A.H. stated that scientific imagination is more important than the mere accumulation of knowledge for driving innovation. Speaking at the inauguration of the XLIX All India Botanical Conference (AIBC) and an international symposium at the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru on Sunday, he stressed the need to make science accessible through the mother tongue.

According to The Hindu, Rajasab called for the adoption of innovations in agriculture and industrial development to address societal challenges. He highlighted several technologies for sustainable development, including artificial intelligence, robotics, precision agriculture, renewable energy, and carbon capture.

The three-day conference, running from November 1 to 3, includes 12 scientific sessions and eight thematic sections for oral and poster presentations. Nearly 250 registered delegates, including scientists from national and international institutions, are participating in the event.

During the inaugural programme, P.V. Sane was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while S.M. Reddy received the Prof.

H.Y. Mohan Ram Medal for Excellence in Teaching. Organising secretary and CSIR-CFTRI Director Giridhar Parvatam outlined the conference objectives, while Indian Botanical Society president Shanthi S.

Sharma welcomed the attendees.

The event also features awards for best oral and poster presentations to encourage research excellence. Seshu Lavania, secretary of the Indian Botanical Society, highlighted the society's activities and contributions during the proceedings.
