Cyclone Arnab death toll in Odisha reaches six

Two bodies were recovered from a landslide-hit village in southern Odisha as search operations continue for 10 missing people.

The death toll from Cyclone Arnab in Odisha rose to six on Sunday, November 1, following the recovery of two bodies in a landslide-hit village, according to Siasat.

The landslide occurred in Gidipabali, a hilltop village on the Ganjam and Kandhamal district border, after heavy rainfall caused sludge and debris to level houses.

State Fire Service Director General Sudhanshu Sarangi said rescue teams have recovered two bodies and the search operation will continue until Tuesday.

Kandhamal District Collector Vedbhusan said at least 13 people who escaped the landslide are being sheltered at a relief centre near G Udaygiri.

Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh P Patil said officials are using a seismic life detection unit and a railway chain pulley system to evacuate people from the affected area.

A total of 177 personnel from the NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Service, Special Operation Group, railways, and the Indian Navy are searching for the 10 missing people.

Earlier, three family members died in a Kandhamal landslide and one man was carried away by water in Gajapati district.
