Minister Jagadeeswari suggested that students with improper haircuts should have their heads completely shaved during a school event in Virudhunagar.
Tamil Nadu Minister Jagadeeswari has sparked a row after suggesting that school students with improper hairstyles should have their heads completely shaved, according to ThePrint.
The remarks were made at an event in Virudhunagar district to mark the laying of a foundation stone for a compound wall at the Ayan Reddiapatti Government Primary School near Kariapatti.
Addressing the gathering, Jagadeeswari said that children with certain haircuts resemble rowdies. She stated that if students arrive with improper haircuts, their heads should be shaved completely.
The minister added that she was making the suggestion considering the students as her own children. She also questioned the role of parents, stating that indiscipline often begins at home when parents permit such trends.
The event was attended by Minister Vanniyarasu and Virudhunagar District Collector Saranya Ari.
