Tamil Nadu northeast monsoon rainfall rises 18 per cent above normal
Chennai weather centre director Durai stated that rainfall reached 22 cm between October 1 and November 1, exceeding the 19 cm average.
Northeast monsoon rainfall in Tamil Nadu reached 22 cm between October 1 and November 1, which is 18 per cent higher than the normal 19 cm for that period, according to Urban Acres.
Chennai weather centre director Durai told reporters that the recorded total in northeast Tamil Nadu stands above the average. He noted that November usually sees higher rainfall during the northeast monsoon.
The weather official said moderate to heavy rain is expected across Tamil Nadu after November 7. This rainfall is likely to be more intense in the southern coastal districts.
Durai added that a cyclone could form after November 15. He explained that cyclones developing in November and December tend to move towards Tamil Nadu, whereas those in October generally move north towards Andhra Pradesh.
The weather centre indicated that any further rise in rainfall could be connected to the development and movement of cyclonic systems.
