Three BSF personnel and villagers injured in Tripura clash
The confrontation in Sepahijala district occurred after villagers alleged that a local youth was detained and assaulted during a vegetation-clearing operation.
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and several villagers were injured during a clash at Ashabari in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Monday, according to The Assam Tribune.
The confrontation took place near Natun Bazar when a BSF 49th Battalion vehicle, travelling from Rahimpur towards Boxanagar, encountered protesters. The crowd allegedly attacked the personnel with sticks and bamboo.
The injured BSF personnel have been identified as Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar, and Manjit. They were initially taken to Boxanagar Hospital before being referred to Tripura Medical College in Agartala for treatment.
Villagers alleged that a local youth, Hefzur Rahman, was detained around 10 am during a vegetation-clearing operation near the Ashabari Gram Panchayat area. They claimed Rahman was assaulted in custody, resulting in a fractured leg.
Following the alleged assault, villagers blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road to demand action. Police from Kalamchoura police station and personnel from the Ashabari BSF Border Outpost arrived to bring the situation under control.
Cases have reportedly been filed by both sides at the police station. Senior BSF officials have visited the area to review the situation, and an investigation into the allegations has been initiated.
