Ferrari principal Vasseur criticises drivers after Mexico Grand Prix clash

Fred Vasseur described the first-lap incident between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc as a lack of respect for the team.

Ferrari Formula 1 team principal Fred Vasseur expressed frustration after a first-lap incident between drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the Mexican Grand Prix cost the team a potential victory. According to The Race, the clash occurred at Turn 4, where Leclerc cut across the track between Turns 4 and 5, causing Hamilton to run wide.

The incident resulted in Max Verstappen and Red Bull securing the win instead of the Ferrari drivers, who were in a 1-2 position at the time. Vasseur stated that the situation was a lack of respect for the 2000 people working at the factory who work to improve the car.

Hamilton said that he and Leclerc did not work together as well as they should have and noted that every decision made in the car impacts the people working in the background. He added that a serious conversation must be had to prevent a repeat.

Leclerc suggested that Hamilton was also aggressive during the incident and said he felt his own driving was on the limit. He noted that the drivers would talk about the situation.

Vasseur intends to hold a meeting with both drivers to clear the situation before the next race in Brazil. He said the team would discuss the matter and aim to fix it before the race in four days.
