Delhi PWD forms panels to inspect 200 anti-smog guns
Two committees will verify the fitness of truck-mounted equipment to control dust across the capital's road network before winter.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has established two committees to inspect 200 truck-mounted anti-smog guns in Delhi, according to a report by India Today citing officials.
The move follows instructions from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to increase monitoring as air quality declines. The equipment is part of a pollution-control plan to manage dust at construction sites and on roads.
The two committees, consisting of eight PWD officials, will perform field inspections to ensure the machinery is in working order. An order stated that no vehicle can be used or deployed without a fitness certificate from these committees.
The PWD intends to start an intensive cleaning drive across its 1,400-km road network. Officials told PTI that each of the 200 guns is expected to clean at least 200 metres of road daily.
The anti-smog guns, which are mounted on vehicles with water tanks, spray fine droplets up to 50 metres high to settle PM2.5 particles and dust. Work will include removing debris and cleaning kerb channels.
The committees will oversee inspections in the Shahdara, East, North-East, Project, South, South-East, and South-West circles. Executive engineers have been directed to assist with these immediate field inspections.
