Gold and silver prices fall ahead of Dhanteras

Precious metals have cooled from record highs seen in January, presenting a potential window for festive buyers.

Gold and silver prices have declined ahead of the Dhanteras festival, according to a report by The Times of India. Both metals reached record highs on January 29, 2026, before experiencing a recent fall.

Gold, which previously touched Rs 1,75,231 per 10 grams, has slipped to below Rs 1.5 lakh levels. Silver, which reached Rs 3,84,632 per kg, has dropped to around Rs 2 lakh per kg.

The decline follows profit booking by investors and pressure from the US-Iran war, which pushed crude oil above $120 per barrel. This has led to inflation fears and concerns regarding US Federal Reserve interest rates.

Vedika Narvekar, research analyst at Anand Rathi Shares & Stock Brokers, said gold could face pressure over the next one to two months. She expects international gold to trade between $3,950 and $4,200 per ounce.

Narvekar noted that silver may face a tougher road due to industrial demand sensitivity. She advised investors to treat silver as a higher-risk, higher-volatility holding than gold.

Ayush Verma, director of Annapurna Jewellers Pvt. Ltd, Varanasi, said that while prices may see further short-term fluctuations, predicting the exact market bottom is difficult.
