Maharashtra to unveil investor-friendly maritime policy, says Nitesh Rane
The upcoming framework will offer single-window clearances and administrative facilitation to maritime enterprises, according to the Fisheries and Ports Development Minister.
Maharashtra will soon notify a comprehensive maritime development policy intended to be the most investor-friendly framework in the country, according to ANI. Maharashtra Minister of Fisheries and Ports Development Nitesh Narayan Rane announced this on Monday during the inaugural session of the FICCI Maritime India Conference & Expo 2026.
Rane stated that prospective maritime enterprises will receive single-window clearances and dedicated administrative facilitation. He said, "Investors will receive red carpet treatment and single-window clearance."
The Minister highlighted a recent tripartite pact between the Maharashtra government, the Centre, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders to create the country's largest shipyard. This project involves an investment of Rs 26,500 crore and is expected to generate employment for approximately 50,000 personnel.
FICCI President-Elect and Chairman of Sanmar Group Vijay Sankar noted that major ports in India handled 915 million tonnes of cargo during financial year 2025-26. This represents a 7 per cent annual growth rate that exceeded projected targets.
Sankar also mentioned the Centre's Rs 70,000 crore budgetary package for shipbuilding and port-allied operations. He described the maritime transformation as a story of economic competitiveness, strategic capability, and national ambition.
Thierry Van Helden, Consul and Deputy Head of Mission at the Netherlands Consulate General in Mumbai, confirmed a Dutch shipbuilding trade delegation will tour India in February 2027.
