Poultry industry seeks ₹110 per kg benchmark for live chicken
Industry leaders met in Hyderabad to discuss market stability and rising input costs affecting the poultry sector.
Poultry industry leaders from across the country have called for a benchmark price of ₹110 per kg for live chicken to stabilise the market, according to The Hindu.
The demand was raised during a high-level meeting in Hyderabad on Monday, November 2, 2026, involving the All India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPBA), the Pan India Breeders Coordination Committee (PIBCC), and various state poultry associations.
Participants noted that recent price drops were largely seasonal and linked to lower consumption during the festival period. They advised stakeholders against panicking over these temporary fluctuations, noting that soybean remains abundant in the market.
The meeting addressed rising production costs, specifically the impact of El Niño conditions on maize availability and prices. Leaders suggested that policy interventions, such as allowing duty-free imports of non-genetically modified (non-GMO) maize, could help manage feed costs.
Representatives, including AIPBA chairman Bahadur Ali, PIBCC convenor Vasanth Kumar Shetty, and Telangana Poultry Breeders Association (TPBA) president A. Tirupathi Reddy, resolved to meet government officials and policymakers in New Delhi next week.
The group intends to discuss these economic challenges and other pressing issues facing the poultry sector during those upcoming talks.
