Karnataka spinners Ritesh and Shikhar take five wickets each to bowl out Assam

Spinners Ritesh Bhatkal and Shikhar Shetty dismantled Assam for 135 on the opening day in Guwahati.

Spinners Ritesh Bhatkal and Shikhar Shetty claimed five wickets each as Karnataka bowled out Assam for 135 in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Monday. According to The Hindu, the spinners exploited a dry, grippy surface to dismantle the hosts after Assam elected to bat first.

Assam's innings saw Sibsankar Roy (37) and captain Denish Das (26) share a 63-run fourth-wicket partnership. However, Ritesh Bhatkal dismissed Roy shortly before the lunch break and then sent back Das in the first over of the second session to complete his five-wicket haul. Shikhar Shetty then helped wrap up the tail to finish with figures of 5/53.

In response, Karnataka reached 180/2 in 36 overs. Openers Rohan Patil (89) and Mayank Agarwal (57 not out) shared a 129-run opening stand. Patil was dismissed by Amlanjyoti Das, falling 11 runs short of a century.

At the close of play, Karnataka lead Assam by 45 runs with Mayank Agarwal and Aneesh K V remaining unbeaten.
