Shivamogga SP urges students to use social media and AI carefully

Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil warned that digital footprints from unethical online activities can damage the future careers of young people.

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police (SP) B. Nikhil advised students on Tuesday to exercise caution when using artificial intelligence (AI) and social media platforms. Speaking at the 40th foundation day of Kuvempu University in Shankaraghatta, Nikhil warned that irresponsible digital behaviour could harm their professional futures.

According to The Hindu, the SP noted that unethical activities on social media are increasing. He cautioned that even unintentional or anonymous posts and comments that break the law can ruin a student's career because digital footprints cannot be erased once a person logs in.

Regarding AI, Nikhil stated that the technology is entering various sectors, including education. He suggested that students should use AI tools to support their studies rather than relying on them completely.

Nikhil also told graduates that sincerity in any chosen job is a true achievement, advising them not to feel discouraged if they do not secure high-ranking positions. Vice-Chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy added that students should participate in art, literature, and cultural activities alongside their textbooks.

The university official said that more opportunities for unique learning experiences would be provided in the future. The event was attended by several university officials, faculty members, and students.
