Six held after BSF personnel attacked in Tripura's Sepahijala district
Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault and directed police to take stringent action against those responsible.
At least six people have been arrested following an attack on three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to The Assam Tribune. The incident occurred at Ashabari under Kalamchoura police station when a BSF vehicle from the 49th Battalion was allegedly attacked with sticks and bamboo by a crowd near Natun Bazar.
The injured personnel have been identified as Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar, and Manjit. The confrontation reportedly began after villagers blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road, following allegations that a local resident, Hefzur Rahman, was detained and assaulted in BSF custody during a vegetation-clearing operation.
Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault on social media, stating that violence against security forces is unacceptable. He directed authorities to take swift and stringent action to ensure justice is delivered, noting that such attacks are a matter of grave concern.
The clash also resulted in injuries to several villagers. While one report suggests the detention of Rahman was related to smuggling suspicions, others state the confrontation stemmed from allegations of an assault during a vegetation-clearing operation near Ashabari Gram Panchayat.
Cases have been filed at the Kalamchoura police station by both sides. Senior BSF officials have visited the area to review the situation as an investigation has been initiated.
