The violence in Sepahijala district erupted after security forces detained a person suspected of involvement in smuggling activities.

At least three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured after being attacked by a group of villagers in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to The New Indian Express.

The incident occurred near the Ashabari border outpost following the detention of an individual suspected of involvement in smuggling activities. A police officer stated that the mob vandalised a BSF vehicle and attempted to snatch arms from the border guards.

Police have arrested six people in connection with the attack. Several others were also taken to the Kalamchoura Police Station for questioning regarding their alleged involvement in the incident.

Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault on Facebook, describing the acts of violence against security forces as "completely unacceptable". He stated that the attack is a matter of grave concern that must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.

Saha said he has directed the concerned authorities to take swift and stringent action against those responsible to ensure justice is delivered. He added that security personnel deserve the utmost respect and protection.
