Florida private jet crash kills nine people in West Palm Beach
Dashcam footage and air traffic control audio have emerged following the fatal Learjet 60 crash in Greenacres on Sunday.
A private Learjet 60 crashed near a busy roadway in Greenacres, Florida, on Sunday, killing all nine people on board, according to Mint.
The aircraft was travelling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it plunged from the sky near Mar-a-Lago. Dashcam videos from passing vehicles show the jet hitting the ground at high speed and creating a large fireball and a crater near the roadside.
Audio from an exchange between the pilot and Air Traffic Control (ATC) captured the final moments of the flight. The pilot reported worsening weather, turbulence, and ice before declaring a mayday. The woman piloting the aircraft was heard stating they were descending rapidly and that they were going to die before the communication ended.
Florida Ron DeSantis described the event as a cataclysmic plane crash that left a large crater by the road. He noted there were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths to people on the ground.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated the crash occurred at 12:50 p.m. in Palm Beach County. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it is sending a team to support the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation into the accident.
