Yellow alert issued for three Telangana districts as Cyclone Murasu nears
The India Meteorological Department has issued weather warnings for several districts as the cyclonic storm approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad districts in Telangana for Wednesday, November 4, according to The Hindu.
The alert, which indicates heavy rainfall, comes as Cyclone Murasu is expected to weaken into a deep depression by midnight on Tuesday, November 3, with wind speeds reaching up to 75 kmph.
The storm is expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur. The IMD reported on Sunday that the storm was moving west-north-west at 27 kmph and was located about 480 km east-southeast of Chennai.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places across several districts, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Hyderabad.
In Hyderabad, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy for the next 24 hours, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely towards the evening or night.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms and follow traffic advisories. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
