Astrobase to invest ₹500 crore in Karnataka rocket engine plant
The space technology company plans to create more than 1,250 jobs at a new facility in Adinarayana Hosahalli.
Bengaluru-based space technology company Astrobase plans to invest ₹500 crore to establish a rocket engine manufacturing facility at the Adinarayana Hosahalli industrial area in Karnataka, according to reports by Urban Acres and BusinessLine.
Karnataka Industries Minister M.B. Patil said the proposed unit will be developed on 10 acres and is expected to manufacture up to 40 rocket engines a year. The project is expected to create more than 1,250 jobs.
Patil stated that Astrobase is led by former scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The company has developed an indigenous engine called Everest, designed to power launch vehicles carrying payloads between 8 tonnes and 26 tonnes into space.
The minister described the project as significant due to the global demand for launch vehicles. Astrobase aims to scale its annual payload delivery capacity to 100 tonnes by 2032 and 1,000 tonnes by 2040.
In a separate announcement, Patil said Netherlands-based company Bayer plans to invest ₹200 crore to establish a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. This project is expected to create 220 jobs.
Patil met Bayer’s leadership in Amsterdam during a recent visit to the Netherlands. The company is reportedly keen to hold a groundbreaking ceremony before the Global Investors Meet scheduled for April 2027.
