Dead frog allegedly found in Utkal University hostel food

The incident occurred at a women's hostel in Bhubaneswar while the campus deals with a jaundice outbreak.

A dead frog was allegedly discovered in a chilli soybean curry served for dinner at Ladies Hostel No. 7 of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night, according to reports by Odisha Bytes and Kalinga TV.

The incident led to protests by hostel inmates and students, who boycotted meals and demanded action regarding food hygiene. Students claimed that the quality of food in the mess has declined recently.

The discovery comes as the campus faces a jaundice outbreak. Two female students from the hostel have tested positive for the illness, and blood samples from more than 10 other suspected cases have been sent for testing.

To investigate the cause, food and water samples from the hostels have been sent for laboratory examination. A team from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) also collected food samples for testing.

University authorities have ordered an investigation into the matter and have set up a 24-hour control room. As a precaution, all food shops inside the campus have been temporarily closed.

The university stated that pure drinking water is being provided and hot water boilers have been installed at various locations. The exact cause of the jaundice cases has not yet been determined.
