Purple Victorian house in Los Angeles hits market for $2 million

The 138-year-old Esperanza House features purple walls and a roof, with restoration costs estimated at at least $1 million.

A 138-year-old Queen Anne Victorian house in Los Angeles, known as Esperanza House, has been listed for $2 million, according to a Times of India report citing Coldwell Banker Realty.

The 2,700-square-foot property, built in 1888, sits on half an acre and is notable for being painted purple both inside and out.

The house was purchased in 1979 by artist Leonora Pierotti Thomas, who reportedly turned the previously yellow home purple. The colour covers the exterior walls, the roof, the kitchen island, some lights, and several interior walls.

Listing agent Laurie Turner of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Pasadena described the property as a unicorn. Turner told Realtor.com that Los Angeles does not have many 138-year-old houses remaining.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home includes a fireplace, wooden flooring, and a pool. The kitchen and primary suite were added within the last ten years.

While the house remains functional, some plaster is peeling from the walls. Turner stated that a contractor estimated the cost of restoration to be at least $1 million.
