WPL 2027: RCB face MI in tournament opener at Vadodara
The fifth edition of the Women's Premier League will be held in Vadodara and Mumbai from January 14 to February 7, 2027.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday that the fifth edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) will begin on January 14, 2027. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will play former title winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in the opening match at Vadodara, according to reports by The Indian Express and The Times of India.
The 22-match tournament will be split between two venues. Vadodara will host the first 11 fixtures from January 14 to 24, before the competition moves to the Cricket Club of India's Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai for the remaining 11 league games starting January 26.
The league stage is scheduled to conclude on February 3. This will be followed by the Eliminator on February 5 between the teams finishing second and third in the standings. The table-toppers will qualify directly for the final.
The final is set for February 7 at the Brabourne Stadium. All matches, including the playoffs, are scheduled to start at 7:30 PM IST.
The schedule announcement follows comments from BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who indicated the board could explore expanding the league beyond its current five-team structure. Saikia stated that brainstorming sessions would be held to increase the number of teams and improve other areas of the competition.
