CJP leaders appear before Delhi Police Crime Branch in Jantar Mantar case

Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka joined the investigation regarding alleged trespassing at the denotified protest site in October.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka appeared before the Delhi Police Crime Branch in Rajouri Garden on Thursday, November 5, 2026. They were summoned to assist with investigations into two cases involving alleged trespass at the denotified Jantar Mantar protest site on October 13.

According to reports from The Hindu, ANI, and Deccan Herald, the cases involve allegations of entering the site through private premises and obstructing police personnel. The two FIRs were originally registered at the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations before being transferred to the Crime Branch.

Ashutosh Ranka stated that the questioning was a routine part of the investigation into the October 13 events and said the leaders would cooperate fully. He added that unfurling the national flag at Jantar Mantar or on public roads should not be treated as a crime.

Saurav Das dismissed allegations of foreign funding as baseless, claiming that right-wing groups are attempting to damage the movement's reputation. He noted that authorities have not provided evidence for these claims since the first press conference on June 3.

The two leaders were previously released from Tihar jail on October 21 after Special Executive Magistrate Ritu Raj accepted personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each. Their release was conditional on maintaining peace and not calling for protests at Jantar Mantar until the site is denotified according to law.
