Delhi authorities stop 2,818 vehicles at borders under GRAP-2

Enforcement teams turned back thousands of vehicles for failing to meet pollution standards during intensified inspections at Delhi entry points.

Enforcement teams under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-2 stopped 2,818 vehicles from entering Delhi at various borders on Wednesday, according to figures cited by Urban Acres. The vehicles were turned back after checks revealed they did not meet required pollution standards.

The inspections, which included checking for BS-VI emission standards and pollution under control certificates, saw a total of 7,048 vehicles checked by 8 pm. In addition to turning vehicles back, enforcement teams issued challans to 84 vehicles for rule violations and seized two vehicles.

The Delhi Traffic Police and the Transport Department are conducting these checks at several entry points, including the Rajokari border, Bijwasan, the Kapashera border, and the Dwarka Expressway toll area. Police from neighbouring areas are also assisting at some locations.

The operation targets major routes connecting the capital with Gurugram and other parts of the National Capital Region. Authorities are restricting the entry of vehicles below the BS-VI emission standard to limit the air pollution load during the implementation of GRAP-2.

A previous round of checking involved approximately 250 officers and staff from 40 teams. According to an Indian Express report, those teams inspected 7,249 vehicles, stopped 714 from entering the city, and seized 38 end-of-life vehicles.
