FIIs record largest single-day buying in over a year

Foreign institutional investors made net purchases of Rs 14,974.68 crore in Indian equities on November 5, according to Moneycontrol.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) conducted their largest single-day buying session in Indian equities in more than a year on November 5. Provisional exchange data reported by Moneycontrol shows FIIs made net purchases of Rs 14,974.68 crore.

During the session, FIIs purchased shares worth Rs 31,797.86 crore and sold Rs 16,823.18 crore across the BSE, NSE, and MSEI. This inflow follows a period of sustained foreign outflows throughout much of 2026, and follows an October where FIIs were net sellers of about Rs 45,160 crore.

The Nifty 50 rose 2.40 per cent to 24,536.60, while the Sensex climbed 2.60 per cent to 79,310.01. This rally added approximately Rs 8 lakh crore to investor wealth and pushed the BSE market capitalisation beyond Rs 500 lakh crore.

In contrast to the foreign buying, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) recorded net sales of Rs 10,444.54 crore so far in November. The November 5 purchase figure surpassed the previous daily high of Rs 12,594 crore recorded on June 26, 2025.

Siddhartha Khemka, Head of Research–Wealth Management at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said Indian equities are expected to maintain a positive trajectory due to firm global cues, the resumption of FII buying, and a sharp correction in crude oil prices.

Nandish Shah, Deputy Vice-President at HDFC Securities, noted that NSE cash-market turnover increased by 30 per cent from the previous session, which he said signalled stronger and broader participation in the rally.
