The state-owned institution will help startups and small businesses overcome international market-entry barriers and access global buyers.
The Gujarat government has approved the creation of the Gujarat Export Promotion Council (GEPC) to assist MSMEs, startups, and entrepreneurs in reaching international markets, according to reports from Urban Acres and The Times of India.
The GEPC will function as a non-profit, state-owned private limited company acting as a special purpose vehicle under the industries and mines department.
The institution aims to help smaller businesses manage challenges such as international regulations, export procedures, and mandatory certifications. It will provide services including business consultancy, market intelligence, technical assistance, and trade-finance support.
The council plans to create a district export promotion plan for every district to evaluate local manufacturing strengths and market demand. District export promotion councils will then work to link local products with overseas buyers.
The GEPC board will consist of three to 15 members. The chief secretary will serve as chairperson, while the industries commissioner will act as managing director.
Future plans for the council include developing digital trade platforms, incubation centres, and logistics-support systems. The government also intends to promote the use of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and green technologies to meet international standards.
