Muhurat Trading 2026: Special Diwali session scheduled for November 8
Stock exchanges will hold a one-hour special trading session to mark the beginning of Samvat 2083 on Sunday.
The BSE and NSE will hold a special Muhurat Trading session on Sunday, November 8, to mark the beginning of the Hindu financial year, Samvat 2083, according to reports by Times of India, Hindustan Times, and Mint.
The session is scheduled to take place on Diwali. The pre-opening session will run from 2:05 pm to 2:20 pm, followed by the main equity trading session from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm.
This annual tradition marks the start of the new Samvat year. While the BSE began this tradition in 1957, the NSE has been conducting it since 1992, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Historically, the market has seen gains in most of the last 10 Muhurat Trading sessions. Mint reported that the index closed in the green eight times during that period, though gains are typically within a 1 per cent range.
In 2008, during the global economic crisis, the market recorded a jump of about 6 per cent on October 28. In 2022, the special session saw an index rise of 0.88 per cent.
Analysts suggest that investors use this time for symbolic purchases or to review portfolios. Experts advise focusing on company fundamentals and valuations rather than short-term momentum.
