Lad calls for expansion of Akka Pade to protect women and children
The Labour and Employment Minister urged for more awareness programmes in educational institutions to ensure safety and security for girl students.
Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Lad has called for the expansion of the Akka Pade programme across Dharwad district to prevent atrocities against women and children, according to the Deccan Herald.
Speaking at the Kadamba Stadium of JSS College on Saturday, Lad inaugurated a self-defence demonstration by women home guards working under the initiative.
The Minister suggested that schools and colleges should host frequent awareness sessions to build confidence and security among female students.
Lad stated that protecting women and children is a collective duty and that women home guards play a vital role in preventing harassment and assisting those in distress.
Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said the Akka Pade was launched in February to improve safety across the State and has helped prevent several child marriages.
Borase also noted that the cybercrime police station receives two to three complaints every month regarding the misuse of personal photographs and blackmailing of girls.
